This thought has stuck in my head since the day it came. This picture of Jesus being in your boat through life’s storms. In Matthew chapter 8 starting at verse 23, there’s a story of when Jesus calms a furious storm. But as the storm came upon Jesus and the disciples’ boat, Jesus was sleeping in the back. The disciples were frantic and thought their lives were going to end. They had the King of Kings in their boat, yet they thought they were doomed—little did they know. They woke Jesus up and He said “you of little faith, why are you so afraid?” He rebuked the winds and waves and in an instant it went from a raging storm to complete calmness.

Like the disciples, I think it’s our human nature to think we know what’s best for our lives. We get caught up in wondering how this is part of Gods plan or maybe you ask the question “why?” a lot. It’s out of pure intentions most of the time, but we get so caught up in the battles we face. When instead, we should be as calm as Jesus. Not because you have the power to calm the storms on your own strength but because Jesus is guiding your boat to get you through. He’s always with you and always guiding you. You should be so attentive to what the Lord speaks to you that all you hear is His voice. If you and Jesus were sailing and he tells you “take down that sail” or “tighten that rope” don’t you think you’d listen to Him?

This picture of just Jesus and I in a boat has gotten me through a lot. Although it’s a visual picture, it’s so accurate because Jesus IS always here with us. You drown out all the noise of the world and listen to what God speaks to your heart. You‘ll begin to read and listen how his word tells you to live and how to love. I think “God spoke this to me, of course I will listen, no matter how hard things may get.” I don’t have any other options but to trust Him and I wouldn’t want it any other way. If we didn’t have faith why would we need a savior? Why would we need a comforter? Why would we need a healer? Why would we need God? Without faith it is impossible to please God. He doesn’t say “yeah figure out why you’re going through this, worry about tomorrow and oh yeah, drive yourself crazy and piece it all together, good luck!” Far from, we aren’t supposed to figure life out, that’s for God to take care of. It’s for us to trust and believe HIS plans and timing for our lives.

Like tightening the ropes and putting up the sails, God instructs us because He loves us. He disciplines us just as our earthly fathers do because again. they love us that much. Often times you see people taking so much pride in the very life that God gave them and doing things their own way. Taking their boat for a joy ride instead of where God’s telling them to go. The picture tonight of this boat reminded me again of this sweet promise God has made us. Through it all, the storms, battles, ups and downs, Jesus is always in your boat. Without this storm the disciples experienced, Jesus never could have preformed a miracle. He wouldn’t have been able to show them how mighty He is. So mighty that the winds and waves obey His command. That’s the God we serve, how awesome.

This visual picture has helped me a lot so I hope it helps you too. When you go through life’s next storm or maybe you’re in one right now, remember that Jesus can’t preform a miracle without one. He’s with you even if you don’t feel it. You may even feel like Jesus is sleeping in the back of your boat and wonder if he’s even listening to your prayers. But I promise you, God is always working for your cause, you must be patient. In a world where everything is pretty much instant, waiting on God to bring you through a season or storm seems so hard at times. But let me tell you, wait a little longer for the Lord and soon a miracle will come of it. You’re friends with the one who created all of Heaven and earth in 6 days, he can do anything in the blink of an eye. You just must believe, for anything is possible for the one who believes.

Persevere, take heart, and He will deliver you. This storm is all apart of His perfect plan for your life.
